Default Hardening fixer issue

Yesterday I reversal processed 6 sheets of Fomapan 100 fixing them with hardener as the old Agfa formula

Solution A
  • Sodium Thiosulfate 160 grams
  • Sodium Sulphite (anh.) 12 grams
  • water to make 500 ml

Solution B
  • Potassium Chrome Alum 30 grams
  • Sulphuric acid (full conc.) 4 ml
  • water to make 500 ml

mixing A + B to get one litre.

But at the end, white dust, tiny grains appeared glued at the tank and at the sheets. I guess I shall have filtered the fixer before use it, but the grains are here and not sure where they come from (fixer wrongly mixed?).

Any advice how can I wash the tank and the sheets?

Yes you should filter the fix/hardener as it entered the tank. Especially powdered brews.

In my experience with Foma 100 (when I tried it out) I could get away with a normal none hardening fixer provided I didn't touch the emulsion until dry.

You could try a re-wash to see if that shifts the white dust items but I fear they may we be stuck to the emulsion.

If you really want to use a hardening fixer with Foma film invest in the commercially available Kodak hardening fixer. It is a bit pricey but does the job - two bottles of liquid. I used it and had no dust / specs issues.

A lot more clean if filtered before use.

Thanks for your answer, Neil.
