Default Sink build

Hi,

Nearly finished the sink. Design taken from the Darkroom Builders Handbook, and looking at threads from here and elsewhere on the net.

Essentially it's a plywood box sitting on a wooden frame. I used a 1cm baton at one end to give it a slight fall.

Still need to paint it (with polyurethane garage floor paint) and cut a hole for the drain. Pleasingly, all of the timber was palletwood or leftovers from my shed, just spent £30 on 12mm hardwood plywood.

The second and third pictures are flipped 90 degrees, not sure why, sorry! The second picture shows the baton that the sink is resting on to provide the fall. There is a second thinner baton halfway down the sink to support it. The plywood is attached to the sink, and is like a sleeve over the frame, you could pick up the sink and slide it off the frame.

The two trays shown are 16"x12", but it will hold 3 16"x20" trays if needed.

Jez

Looks pretty good. From my experience the bigger the better. Mine is a Brown's sink from Nova Darkroom, now called the Imaging Warehouse, and it looked way bigger than I thought I'd need but not so. Room to move within the sink is very useful.

Yup! It is... great when a plan comes together I mean... can't wait to start printing!

Thanks for the compliments...

I've got an offcut of the plywood which will sit above it and take a print washer if necessary, maybe a jobo, who knows....

Not sure if that means you're thinking of placing the washer on a shelf above the sink ... if the washer is for large prints it can be VERY heavy when full, in which case it's best placed IN the sink. I can barely pick up my 16x20 washer when full.

Yes good point. I am just going to rest it on top of one end of the sink. So it will be firmly supported with nowhere to fall - but I may screw some batons round the perimeter to give it some strength.

Great bit of wood work really nicely done. I can understand your itch to state printing.

Workbench nearly there. Just need to treat the wood and add storage.

Looks, good, but I'm a bit thrown by #2 image - does it need to be rotated?

Regarding the ply sink - did you go for marine ply or the conventional domestic stuff ?

Thanks

Martin
