What paper/developer/toner gives dark brown blacks
What paper/print developer/toner do you use to get deep browns and dark blacks or deep purples and dark blacks?

Three different toners if using Neutral toned papers, a good warmtone developer with a warmtone developer.
I love Ilford IT-8 toner's colours a very rich Olive black tone, unlike most toners which require slightly over exposed prints this one has intensifying effects . For Purplish tones I'd use Ilford IT-2 Hypo Alum toner very long lasting. For in between I'd use IT-1 a standard sulphide toner. I did a lot of research into toners for work in the late 1970's and early 80's. That included a white and also a yellow toner. The idea of the white toner was ro apply emulsion to a black surface and create a white image on top, the downside was it used Cadmium salts which are highly toxic. All papers behave differently in toners so you need to experiment. I', lucky as I have all the raw chemicals to hand anyway Ian |

A good place to start could be Wolfgang Moersch websites

Ian, regarding IT-8, is this a toner that can be bought pre-prepared or does it need to be prepared from raw chemicals by the user? I’ve looked at our sponsors websites but cannot see it for sale. I did find your website though! Cheers Dave

I have used Moersch blue developer it gives rich blacks and blueish tones depending on the dilution you use. It is a favorite alternative developer.
Links below maybe of help blue developer as a follow up cold tone paper
