Anyone missing single weight papers?
As far as know, only Slavich and Fuji Rembrant papers come in single weight (Fuji is very expensive). I also read Fomabrom Variant only has 180g/sqm. Does this paper feel thinner in your hand than say Ilford, Kentmere, Fomatone...which have around 250-270g/sqm?
I would like to make several small prints (5x7inch) and feel the thinner paper would suit them best. Thanks, Miha |

I doubt that it would be economic to duplicate the range of papers in this way Miha.

You are right Dave, but there is no need to duplicate, switching from double to single weight would do.

It would , but then you would have me moaning about the lack of double weight papers.

Just give me one of your least favourite and I'll be fine.

Single-weight Slavich Unibrom feels noticeable thinner and lighter, and 8"x10" sheets are very floppy when wet!
I use it for prints to dry-mount into my journals - stops the book becoming quite so thick. Good stuff, and plenty versatile enough. G2 and G3, with the addition of soft developer where needed, can deal with most negatives I've tried. Apparently it liths, but the one experiment I made resulted in a very unevenly-toned print, so more practice is needed :-) Ian |

I bought mine last year when the only place to get single-weight was Freestyle, but I notice AG photographic may be in a position to supply, so it could be worth getting in touch with them.

The Foma 'Variant' while not strictly classed as single weight is on a thinner than standard base, 180 grams/square metre. Standard double weight is 240, & I think Ilford FB Multigrade is now on 300 gsm. The original single weight Ilford FB Multigrade I seem to remember was 135 gsm.

Thanks Martin!
I have decided to order some Fomabrom Variant, ADOX MCC, Efke Emaks, and Kentmere Fineprint VC in 5x7 and/or 7x9,5 inch size and try them out. Luckily, these small sizes won't cost me an arm and a leg. Miha |
