Default Ortho Litho film

Hi All

I occasionally produce masks (for contrast manipulation) for darkroom printing. About 18months ago I imported 4 boxes of Arista Ortho Litho 4x5 film from the US. I've produced masks with it soon after I got it and they were fine. But I haven't used it for a while and recently when I used it I've found every box is fogged with what looks like x-ray fog.

Needless to say this has wasted many hours in the darkroom and over $100s of film.

Does anyone know where I can buy a litho film in the UK?

Faraz, can you not try a restrainer added to your developer, like the usual Benzotrimazole?

And looking on eBay UK, there is only one product sold in the UK and that is listed as out of date, unsurprisingly:

I saw this, but actually not too concerned about the expiry. Litho film tends to work fine years past its expiry.

I've not thought to add a restrainer, will take a look at this. I tried pulling the film to reduce the fog relative to the exposure, it works but the fog is still there.

I think a restrainer won't work, since the fog is not even, it's typical x-ray fog with wavy patterns.

It might be worth a go though with a sheet or two...?

I can send you a gram or so to make some up if you haven none and provide me with a UK address?

Yes, but that's expensive if it all gets fogged by x-rays!

Faraz, it's a real pity that it costs so much over here. It won't help you Faraz but as a general point I do wonder if there is a correlation between cost and one U.K. source only

In the U.S. based on my experience on Photrio where about 95% are U.S. based it is a common product with several stockists and a quantum leap cheaper
