Default Intrepid 4x5 enlarger LED's

Has anyone had a chance to use Intrepid's 4x5 enlarger?

https://intrepidcamera.co.uk/product...ll?taxon_id=37

I haven't been able to find anything on the power output of the LED's and was wondering if they worked okay. I'd be interested to hear your views on it.

Thanks
Dave

I have their 4x5 V2 amd it works absolutely fine. Only issue is that you have to use their timer

Thanks for the information.

I like the idea of the contrast controls so I'm good with getting the timer. I'm not clear on all the timer controls available but was wondering if there was a focus setting that I could leave it in and plug it into my RHDesigns for the timer functions. Do you think that would work?

Hi Dave,

I own the MK1 version of the Intrepid 4x5 enlarger. It works fine, exposure times are as one would expect, not too long, not to short either.

I´m not sure where in the wiring you want to place your RHD timer, but there are a few things to consider. The mains power supply delivers 12V/2A to the Intrepid timer, so everything behind it is low voltage. When the power supply is plugged in, default is "light off". While the MK! (b&w) will only switch the LEDs on/off, communication between the MK2 timer and the RGB LEDs will be more complex.

Regards, Matti

Hi Matti

Thanks for the information. I had been thinking that the Intrepid timer would connect to the LED's so that would mean the RHD timer would be between the main power outlet (120v ac here in Canada) and the Intrepid timer. The RHD timer would see the Intrepid timer as an enlarger.

For that to work though, the Intrepid timer would always have to be on (as in focus mode) and the RHD would provide the timing. Do you think that would work?

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave,

it won´t work that way (at least with the MK1):
- default setting of the timer is "light off" when plugged in
- the timer immediately forgets all settings (including focusing light on) when unplugged
- the timer has a kind of afterglow when unplugged (not sure if that´s applicable to the LEDs, too)

In my opinion the Intrepid enlarger kit is designed for standalone use only.

Regards, Matti

Thanks Matti. I like the timer options the RHD gives but I should find out from Intrepid what theirs has. Not much information on the website.
