Default Linhof Technar 4x5"

I've been looking into buying a compact, handholdable 4x5" camera.
There are a few contenders, with the most obvious one's being the Sinar-handy, the Cambo-wide and the fairly obscure Linhof Technar.

Well today, one came up on Ffordes looking for a new home and I couldn't resist...

Here are a couple of shots nabbed from their site before she gets shipped.

Oh! I forgot to say it has a 75mm f5.6 Super Angulon lens together with the grip and finder.

Lovely piece of kit. I never saw one before and Ffordes are good to deal with sometimes having rare items.
A couple of years back looking for another MF item I discovered a Zenxanon 50-100 zoom for Bronica SQ something I never knew existed. Made by Tamron in Japan and relatively compact unlike the earlier big heavy Schneider zooms for Bronica it wasn't a give-away price but affordable, and it was my birthday.

Nice, the 75mm Super Angulons are great lenses very practical for scale focussing. I use an f8 version on my 6x17 camera.

I don't think I'd come across Ffordes before, they certainly have an excellent selection of used equipment at sensible prices. I was delighted to find a focusing screen for my Mamiya 645 ProTl with crop lines for the 135 back.

Very nice Marty, a few years ago at work we used the services of a pro photographer who although his gear was mainly digital had one of these which he loved to use, the results were eye popping so have some fun.

Thanks everyone.

Paul, I couldn't agree more, Ffordes pricing tends to be very fair.

Ian, nice to know that the lens is a good performer. I'm particularly happy that I've got the 75mm instead of the 65mm SA. It will generally be used for 4x5 and 6x12 formats. I'm not a super-wide angle lover and so the perspective of the 75mm is more preferable for me.

Edmund, welcome to aladdin's cave!

Richard, I hope I'll do the camera justice. It's certainly gone to a good home, if nothing else.

I think I was super lucky to get hold of this item. The guy said it had only been on the shelf for half an hour!
It was listed as exc+ so I'm expecting some signs of use but until now at least, I've always been pleasantly surprised by Ffordes descriptions and the photos look good. Hopefully everything will be original and work properly especially the helical focus mount.
There really isn't much out there on the net especially showing results so when it arrives I'll put some film through it asap and post back.

I had no idea of the existance of this camera... even google brings nothing up. Nevertheless, it looks cool!
