So if there are no bungs at all in the top, what stops the contamination of the water in the water jacket?
I make 20x16" fb prints and there's always some chemicals dripping off the prints during the transfer. At the end of a printing session the black plastic separators tend to have a good coating of chemical which I wipe clean while still fresh. I think I'd still prefer to have (loose) bungs than none at all.

Contamination - Non!
The recommended way that the paper is lifted out of the developer, into the Stop and then into the blix ensures that as the paper is lifted directly from one to the next and does not come close enough to get into the water jackets.
Even if it does, it can do no damage what so ever as the paper does not come into contact with the water jacket contents. It is advisable after each print to wipe the top of the strip between each bath (I used a piece of kitchen roll) to ensure that the stop bath does not accidentally find it's way into the developer. Going the other way between stop and blix matters not one iota. If you are that worried all you have to do is attach a piece of brown waterproof parcel tape over each hole. Thanks all. That settles matters. No bungs and some bleach in the water. I too use a temporary dipstick. It's a twist of toilet paper dipped into the hole to see how far down it has to go to get wet
I had not considered the expansion and contraction of water but frankly as the Nova is in a converted bedroom and I print at 20C ,the ambient temp and the water temp vary very little. Water loss even over a long period appears to be very little but an occasional dip with toilet paper may be sensible It would explain why Nova sold me the unit without bungs. As the unit was secondhand I had just assumed that they had gotten lost Mike |
