Well, you had me scratching my head there for a moment Malcolm. Does an electric kettle draw less current in the UK at 230V than the same kettle in Canada/US at 120V? Turns out you're right, much to my surprise. It draws quite a bit less - almost one-half, in fact (must a direct inverse relationship there somehow ). Learn something new every day. Thanks for that.

In any case, it sounds like Jez has it well covered, and even had an electrician in to check it out. Good one! Just remember to give yourself some head room, Jez, for a beverage fridge and a water heater (in that order of priority ).

Cheers,
Svend

Power (watts) is volts times amps, so yes, we get twice as much! :-D

Default Complete!

Finally done and printing! Light proofing was a nightmare, ended up using brown silicone sealant (horrible stuff) along seams, and also damp proof membrane plastic is very handy and completely light proof.

The shed is divided in two, other two pictures are of the office/consulting room at the front which I have yet to furnish.

In the course of making this I have discovered that I love woodworking as much as photography, which is enlightening but also dismaying - where will I find the time and money for both???

Looks great, very Scandinavian. Could double up as a sauna!

One point that I cannot find covered is summer time. You may be able to warm the place up in winter. but once the summer kicks in (It does occasionally in uk!) the insulation will stop the place getting too warm. Being a darkroom, you can hardly open the door to let in a through draft.

I once used a darkroom in Cyprus and the temp in summer went up well beyond a reasonable level, regularly getting above 120F - shorts and flip-flops being the order of the day.

It has 50mm insulation in the roof, and it's under a tree which will provide a bit of shade. Having worked in a similar shed in a school, the main problem was the sun coming in through the windows, obviously not a problem in the darkroom side. I'll see how I get on.
