Default Newbie questions regarding manual film developing

Hello,

This is my first post in the forum, so greetings to everybody.

I have some quick newbie questions.

I own two kindermann stainless steel tanks:
i) 2x35mm
ii) 1x35mm
I also own two 35mm reels.

I think I prefer the big tank over the smaller one, because of the firm plastic lid.

So, my questions:

Should i always develop two films at the same time or can i develop just one?

Do i have to secure the reel from going up and down during agitation?

You can do one in your large tank. Put the second empty reel in on top of the loaded reel. That should prevent movement.

I'm only developing sheet film in trays nowadays, but if I were to resume roll film on reels I'd be concerned about how much developer volume might be best when using this method. It seems to me all that air space in the tank could result in a couple of significant problems: 1) an excess of air bells on the film, 2) overly vigorous agitation. Would it not be better to either use enough developer volume to nearly fill the tank, or dilute the developer more (and increase the dev time)? Just wondering.
