Default Camera Repairs

It is always welcome to find someone who has done a good job with repairing a camera which may not be otherwise repairable.

The Camera Repair Workshop in Bletchley Tel: 01908 378088:-
Is just such a place. I sent my well used Minolta XM to him for a service and if possible repair the exposure compensation adjustment disc which had detached itself. Bearing in mind this is an electronic camera from around the late 1970's it was sent off with a great deal of finger crossing.

I got it back two days ago (7 working days away) with a complete service and the loose disc secured back in place. The foam strips had all been replaced. The metering head had been dismantled cleaned and re-calibrated. The shutter had been dismantled and reset for accuracy and the rest of the body thoroughly cleaned inside.

It was returned via Special Delivery at no extra charge all for £75

Apparently when Minolta closed up shop he bought all the available spares from them and he is probably the one to go to to fix a problem with Minolta.

Highley recommended. Nothing seemed to be too much bother.

John, is he only a Minolta specialist or is he expert in other cameras? Bletchley is well within travelling distance for me

Thanks for posting this, John. It is always reassuring to hear a recommendation from experience. The only Minolta models I have are motion picture cameras, both Standard and Super8. I like the look of the more traditional SLRs, however, and could end up with one at some point. Some of the lenses look pretty good. I have two of the enlarger lenses, and am pleased with them.
Alex.

No I don't think so, although a call would confirm yes or no. I do know he is prepared to service a 28/90 F2.8/4 Series 1 Vivitar zoom which I am hanging onto with both hands. It is such a damn sharp lens that one stop down and a 12x16 is a cake walk. It is unmarked, but possibly due to lack of use the focusing ring is quite stiff so a re-grease will do it proud

Default CLA question

Just revising this thread as I have a question!

I need to get my Rolleicord CLA'd. I know of a company in London that will service it, but I'd rather find somewhere a bit closer if I can, somewhere I can get to in person rather than rely on the post. Does anyone know of any company in the Midlands that would CLA a Rolleicord?

Thanks in advance

Not in the midlands, but I would recommend Newton and Ellis.

Hi Cliveh, thanks very much for the recommendation! Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have just been doing my first ever film developing the last few days!
