Default thoughts about buying a Hasselblad 500C

Hi
my eyes fell on a Hasselbald C with chrome 80mm lens.
the price is very reasonable.
Any thoughts to buy it or wait a little longer and save more money for a newer version?

Thanks for your advises.

If it were me, i'd save up and buy a later version, like the 501 or 503.

The 500c will more than likely need a CLA.

Unless it is ridiculously cheap of course, but if it is, then there may be a reason for the low price....buyer beware.

Mike

the problem with Hasselblad's is price ,they all cost, if you can get a good one cheap and not worn out buy it ,but if you really want a newer one ,don't buy that one and keep on looking . I have the 503cw and the 553 elx so if you need any advice on these two please let me know ..

The letter 'C' stands for Compur, a shutter manufacturer who folded many years ago. Spare parts are an issue, although my contact Classic V in Watford tells me that the main spring is available on the grey market. Poor servicing is a problem - too much oil may spread onto the shutter blades, which become sticky. The shutter in later lenses was made by Prontor, which seems now to only supply shutters for large-format cameras. FADU is such a wonderful source of knowledge that someone will write in and correct me!

Hansm- Good Evening.
Are you already using medium format? If so, what are you currently using? I'm asking because there are other alternatives, and wondered what was drawing you to the 500C in particular.

Hi Skellum,

At the moment I have a rolleicord, gives very nice results.

I just came across this hassy, not really on a search.
The price was not bad but didn’t take the risk.

I've never felt the urge to get a Hassleblad. I've tried various tlr's over the years, and I have a Rollei that I haven't tried out yet. But my mf film gets put through a Bronica SQ and a Fuji GA645zi, with the latter being my favourite in mf size, if not any format - it's just a great camera!

I wish I'd bought my Hasselblad much earlier. Although, whether they are worth their money or not is debatable.

I prefer the mechanical types over the electronic controlled ones.
