He was banned from Ebay, steer well clear.

Better to use someone honest and reliable like Simon Chesterman - Collectable Cameras.

I would second Simon Chesterman at Collectable Cameras, honest, reliable and very friendly, and he doesn't overcharge, I have dealt with him over many years and have yet to have any problems

Don't worry Richard I was not going to buy anything from him but as I had no idea that he existed I thought I would throw it open to see what others thought.

As for Collectable Cameras, I live close enough to go in person and Simon has a lot of good stock and have bought from him a good number of times and been fully satisfied.

However I bought a camera from him (unseen) last year and whilst it was working there was an obvious need for a full service I sent it away to be fully checked over and serviced. It was a good job that I did, because the repairer found that the exposure compensation ring was loose internally and not working. The mirror shock absorbing foam rubber was the wrong type and could have damaged the mirror and the shutter was completely inaccurate.

I did not complain as the camera is a 'professional' rarity and had wanted one for a good number of years. (Minolta XM} It is now working perfectly. Considering the low price I paid and the cost of the service I still have a bargain.

On the other hand I bought an LPL 7700 enlarger from him several years ago and paid less than £100 and that was perfect
.
So yes I would still go back to him.

I had one dealing with Rocky. It was for a C220 that never turned up. Luckily I used paypal and put request in with them to resolve. He was pretty rude about, claimed he had sent the thing but did indeed refund the purchase. That is the one and only purchasing experience with the guy, I have bought from pretty much all the well known specialist retailers, include many of the smaller ones on ebay and had not a single problem that I would moan about with any of them except for this guy.

I agree, buyer beware.

I would like to add that any ad description no matter who it is from plus postage, packing and the amount of time it takes to arrive is part of the purchase contract. If any part falls short it is a contravention.

The last dealings I had with Rocky Cameras I had to threaten him with the Fraud Squad to get any action. I've bought a few things over the years and it has generally been a miserable experience. Never again.

I viewed his stock list a few times, looking for particular cine items. He seemed to have an unusually large stock of certain items that are normally quite difficult to source. Prices for such items were also unusually low, all of which made me think I probably wouldn’t be satisfied with any purchase.
