Does anyone here use Fotospeed products?
Does anyone here use Fotospeed products? How do they measure up and compare price wise to Ilfords offerings?

I have used their rc paper which I found very good, their selenium and sepia toners, alkali fixer and warm tone print developer all of which havel been fine. Prices were similar to Ilford.

I have used their RC paper, good paprr, their sepia toner and I love their WT10 warm tone developer, always have it in, the only product of theirs that was a total diaster was their FD 10 film developer, I simply could not get it to develop a film, HP5+ developed for their suggested times, doubleing the times and exposing at 100 asa only gave me very faint negatives that were un printable, same went for Foma and Kodak Tri x, just could not get it to work, and one 1 liter bottle went dark brown within 2 weeks of opening, so could not reccomend that developer, but no complaints with anything else over the years,
Richard

Hi Norm,
I've used Fotospeed RC lustre paper (bought off of ebay from an estate sale), which I've found as good as any other RC paper that I've used. I haven't looked for a while, as I haven't needed to order paper recently, so I don't know the price differences between various brands. I also used some unopened old and expired (best before end of 2011) warm tone developer at the end of 2018, which was and is a great product to use. Glad I tried it rather than ditch it straightaway. I started a thread here, about older chemicals in general: http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...ad.php?t=12225 So although I can only personally recommend two items, I'd definitely take a look again when I next need something. Photospeed
I have just finished a bottle of their rapid fixer. No problems with it. The stop bath is still going strong as well.
I would draw the line at their film and paper developers though. Not that there will be anything wrong with them, I just prefer to stick with what I know and trust. |

I think I may have a box of Fotospeed Lustre 5x7 paper in the darkroom. Maybe I should try it now. I think I may have bought it after reading some of Richard Gould's posts recommending it. If I recall in Richard's opinion it was better for toning that Ilford RC.
Richard, more recently I have a feeling that you mentioned that Kentmere RC was as good for toning or is it better? Thanks Mike |

Hi Mike, Yes, I have found that the Kentmere paper is better than Fotospeed for Sepia certainly, which is the only toner I use, nicer than Fotospeed, also, looking on Fotospeed's own website and others it seems as if the Fotospeed paper is currently in short supply, if it goes it would be a shame as it is coated on a slightly heavier weight base

Thanks Richard for confirmation of Kentmere's "tonability" I felt sure I had read somewhere that Fotospeed paper was slightly heavier and you have confirmed this as well.

Let's hope Tetenal survive as Fotospeed depend on them in regards to the chemistry.
