Default 6x7 negatives - storage and contact printing.

I've just become the proud owner of a Mamiya 7ii complete with 80mm and 50mm lenses. Absolutely lovely to use and I've just developed my first roll of film and it looks good. I've used 6x6 and 6x4.5 cameras extensively and the negative have nicely fitted into a standard negative file page in either rows of 3 or 4. I've just discovered the one big drawback of 6x7 I think! A row of 3 is too long for the file and if I use 2 to a row I need to go onto a second file as there are 10 on a roll but only 4 rows in a file. Same goes for contact prints. The smaller sizes fit nicely onto a single sheet of 10 x 8 paper but I'll need 2 for a film of 6x7.

How do people here manage their 6x7 negs?

It's a bit of a squeeze but I go for the 2,2,3,3 combination. And as for the contact printing I have always used 9 1/2" X 12" paper.

Fabulous cameras and lenses, enjoy!

Enjoy your Mamiya Rob it's a great system. I use negative files that take 3 negs per row, if you need to contact them it's got to be 12x91/2 paper.

I use these and they fit on 8.5x11 paper.

Hi Rob I love using my 7ii its such a versatile camera, I use the Kenro standard clear acetate medium format file pages and get 3 in row then for the last one leave the tail end of the film on for handling. Enjoy your new camera.

You can also get sleeves that take negatives in vertical strips, for example this one from Printfile: 120-3HB

Aha. I've just worked out the problem. I've been using up my stock of Jessops neg files which are over a inch narrower than the Kenro ones which comfortably take a strip of 3. Serves me right for being a cheapskate!

There's a similar issue with scanning, if we dare mention that diversion from darkroom printing. Whilst three 6*6 negs can be scanned in each channel of a MF holder for the Epson v700, the third 6*7 neg is cropped, leaving the necessity of turning the film around for just one negative on each side.

I use Print File pages which fit three 6x7 frames without a problem.
