Default Camera Club talk

I know that some people shy away from camera clubs for various reasons (mainly because most are overtly digital!) but I like to think that our club has a nice balance. Not only do we have a satellite mono group, where over a third of the attendees are still darkroom workers, it just so happens that one of those is also the programme secretary which brings me to the point of my posting. Last night we had the pleasure of a two hour talk by Andrew Sanderson which even the die hard 'D' workers had to agree that it was an inspiring evening. I had often seen and admired Andrew's work in B&W Photographer, AG etc. for many years but to see them in the flesh was an absolute joy. Coming home last night my only thoughts were where to go this weekend with my 6x6 folder loaded with HP5!

Good to hear Paul.

I'm a member of the East Midlands Monochrome Group and we enjoy some excellent talks as well as our general evenings. Last week FADU Friend Tony Lovell showed a selection of his prints that were quite inspirational. He also explained his approach to darkroom print manipulation, something that seemed to stun the digital users in the audience.

He brought along a new book just published on Blurb outlining his paper negative technique... just in time for Christmas methinks!

That looks very interesting! I might well get myself a copy to read. I think I will delay trying it for the moment as I have enough to do thinking about film and printing from that

I left my local photographic club which turned into an 'imaging group' as I was the only film user. I think I only joined because my father was the treasurer and there was a cup of tea and biscuits in the interval!

I am now a member of another not so local (but still local as I'm on a small island) club which although is mainly digital, as I would expect, still has a number of film users and they also have competion categories for slide entries. And they have tea and biscuits as well!

I've often thought about joining a club but to be honest unless it was dedicated to traditional monochrome work I'd only get frustrated.

BTW, thanks for the link to Andrew Sandersons new book, I've played with paper negs before but would love to do more so I've ordered a copy

He did tell us that the book artwork that is currently being used by Blurb has a couple of typo's which he will rectify with new artwork in the coming weeks... just thought I'd better mention it...
