Default blurb

Have members published portfolios of the pictures using Blurb.

If so what was your experience and would you post a link to it please?

It would be nice to see what members have produced.

Thanks

An interesting post Mitch and I look forward to seeing others work.

To start the ball rolling, here is my first effort with Blurb, done as one of my first year BA Photography Uni projects:

http://www.blurb.co.uk/books/4473700-a-day-at-the

Although I know my darkroom prints could be better, the book is as close as to the original scanned darkroom prints as possible, so I highly recommend them.

I haven't personally used Blurb but my father used them for two (printed and electronic versions) books of work by members of the Zone 8 Photographic Society (a group comprising people who studied at my father's photography school - the first privately owned one in the UK - plus other people who have been attracted by the advice available / the annual meet-ups).

The results were good BUT you need to ensure that you follow the specifications carefully and use the correct ICC profile to ensure you achieve neutral B&W images and not one page with a slight blue tint, another one with a slight green tint, etc.

Members of the Zone 8 Photographic Society have free access to the wealth of knowledge that my father has amassed over the years, full access to their own Forum, active Messaging Area and pbase Members Gallery. The Forum has links to a range of Technical Information Leaflets (TILs) all in Printer Friendly Format, plus the FREE Members Advisory Service, Newsletters and Booklets, all for a low annual subscription. Further details can be accessed here:

http://www.photosnowdonia.co.uk

Examples of the printed and eBooks can be seen here:

Bests,

David

Thanks Marc. All of the people in the book are real characters in their own ways and the guy you mention was very chuffed when I gave him a 10 x 8 darkroom print of himself.

Some years ago I produced a book through Blurb and thought the quality was quite good. My only criticism was that I felt some of my images were printed too dark and put this down to the fact that I was viewing images on a computer screen by transmitted light and of course the printed image in the book is viewed by reflected light. However, I am now in the process of producing a printed book, for which I showed the printers the Blurb version as a starting point.

Interestingly the printers comment was that the original scans were fine, but the process used by Blurb tended to over ink, thus resulting in the darker images. The Blurb book is still viewable on my web site (see above) and the printed version should be available in the New Year.

Three years ago my wife's family celebrated a 100 years anniversary and I managed to get many of them on film. I printed a few copies and was quite pleased with the result.

The FADU exhibition was also available as a Blurb book. Click on the blue link at the top of the page under the sponsor links.
