The lens dates to 1957, the camera body is a MkVI I think judging by the SN. I'd have to check Basil Skinners book.

I've got vague memories of wondering which precise Mk mine was; but certainly not a Mk VIII which has more rounded features.

The MPP Users site says that SN 6000 to 7519 were MkVI bodies converted to MkVII.

A good book on using the 5x4 Micro Technical is CAMERA MOVEMENTS by George L Wakefield. The 5x4 Mk VI is used in book but the information will be useful for the newer models too.

Perfect....year I was born.
I had a look at the archive info and thought it would most likely be late 57 or 58 for the body.

MPP made cameras in 6x6 cm sq (12 on 120), 5" x 4" Microtechnical, various models, and a 5" x 4" Monorail, which became standard issue to MoD photographers for a period. I have a Microtechnical and a Monorail. The Microtechnical models can be used hand-held, and can be rangefinder focused. The Monorail is focused by ground glass, and I can't imagine it being hand-held. I found a firm tripod very necessary to keep the (Microtechnical) camera aligned when changing from focusing to shooting.

When I bought my Microtechnical MkVII, I was expecting better results than I regularly got from 35mm film - I was disappointed, until I bought modern lenses - and then my local E6 processor closed...

Perhaps best if you find a camera you're interested in, and then ask here for our views.
