Thanks Mike - being both hamfisted and a coward I’m going to see what the cost of a pro repair is first ... but haven’t ruled out following your example! Cheers

I guess it all comes down to having confidence in your own abilities (and the right tools).

Absolutely Mike. Wood, hammer, saw and nails are my forte - small, fiddly don’t usually fit my sausage fingers and mechanical engineering is an alien concept (my father was a carpenter and could use virtually any tool he picked up - he used to despair of me!)

I'm the opposite.....wood is a mystery to me.
Give me a spanner or screwdriver anyday Mike |

I'm usually quite happy to have a tinker, but the guy in the video made it look TOO easy!!!
NO WAY would I try to do what he's doing!!! My nerves wouldn't hold out, however easy he makes it look. Terry S |

So, a very quick response from Newton Ellis ...
“ To repair and service the A12 back is usually £125.00 + vat.” I make that £150 |

Dave you are between a rock and a hard place with that ,I have just looked on fleabay and the price of them is in the 200 pounds mark and you are not sure of the condition .so what to do .if it was me I would send it for repair ,if you can afford it .

I would look at it slightly differently.....
If i have a go at the repair and it works, i have saved £150......if I have a go and it doesn't work (assuming i've not made it any worse), then i'll have a fully CLA'd back for £150. Mike |

Yep, give it a go... It looked pretty straightforward to me (and I am only averagely handy) with a good warning about the stuff with springs hidden under them so they do not come as a surprise.
Worst-case, pick up all the bits that have just pinged themselves to the four corners of the room, pop them in a baggie and send the lot off for repair... |
