Jake,
Checked in luggage goes through a system that uses higher intensity of X-ray, which will almost certainly fog your films. On the other hand, the typical X-ray dose you and your hand luggage gets are quite fine as their intensity if quite low. In fact, my films have gone through at least 10-12 Airports without any problem. If an Airport is using something more powerful you'll see the machine operator wearing some special garments /& glass. So unless you see them wearing something like that, don't worry. The point: weird garment-wearing operator => bad X-ray dose for films. Kodak has a specific set of tips/instruction here. Bests, Ashfaque

On rolls, if exposed to x-ray, you get vertical lines. Iso over 800 are at higher risk of damage and must be declared even on a 'light' scanner like for the Eurostar. As for the TK Max issue, sounds like it was exposed to heat according to the guys here.

I think that these days the only current film over 800 is Ilford Delta 3200 but of course you may still have some old Neopan 1600, Kodak P3200 and in colour even some 1600 Fuji Superia. Thanks Mike |

Well we came over on the ferry and they didn't even scan our bags. I'm now in Italy rattling through HP5+ and FP4+ so hopefully no problems - we're travelling back on the Eurostar but they've assured me their machines are 'film safe'.
