Zen Photography
Sorry to harp on about Zen in photography, but while watching this HCB interview
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...7481455007235# I couldn’t help notice him mention, about 37 minutes in of how he took this picture, http://www.flickr.com/photos/nofear089/339542186/ by holding the camera above his head. With a 6 X 6 reflex you can do this and see the image, but with a Leica you can’t. How can you take a picture like this and not be able to see it without Zen intervention? |

The example you've given reminded me of this shot I took in 1990/1.
I took this with a OM10. A 50mm lens @ f8, FP4. I was standing on a plinth, in Trafalgar square. A wide shot, cut to frame. I think I read somewhere that HCB was found to have cut some of his shots, and then stayed quiet about it, or flat-out denied it. I could be wrong though. I think HCB would not have cared about covering things up or cropping or whatever. If he had Photoshop he could probably not improve on his own innate ability.

I remember an old AP,BD(before digital) article about HCB's printer and they showed several of his negatives, and then the prints, and they were mostly cropped, some very heavily, in spite of his denials,

geez what's with the cropped or not cropped. Who gives a monkeys. Are there some commandments somewhere that say "thou shalt not crop". Absolute nonsense. The fact some brainless journalist(sic) decided to ask the question sometime does not make it law. Well not to any sane person anyway.

Since he didn't print his own work he never cropped his own work. Perfectly valid claim.
