Beware of Pinterest
In the thread on cyanotype there was what looked like an interesting link to what appeared to be articles on cyanotype. It linked to Pinterest. Within that site there was another apparent article to cyanotyping on clothing but of course to see any more you had to join Pinterest
Stupidly and without reminding myself of the usual "there's no such thing as a free lunch and what's in it for them" I proceeded to register so Pinterest has my e-mail There was an unrelated problem anyway in completing the registration so I didn't take it any further but as Pinterest had my e-mail it has proceeded to send me marketing stuff everyday It is clear that it is simply there to market and sell and tempt you in to its web There isn't anything really there about cyanotype as far as I can make out other than some cyanotype goods such as tee-shirts It is not there to help you understand cyanotyping in any real way This may have been obvious to everyone but me and there were warning bells which it was my fault for ignoring but be warned. You can glimpse into it but it only allows you a peek until you join which involves supplying it with your e-mail So no problem using the supplied link as long as you take it no further Mike |

Pinterest
Where is that organisation based? If it is in UK then you have the right for your personal details to be removed under the GDPR Rgs 2018. If you cannot contact them, or they refuse, get in touch with the Data Protection Registrar. they will force them to remove it but only if they are in UK.
Alternatively, is there a way you can block the E mail address they are coming from? They will soon get fed up when all they send keeps bouncing back. |

Thanks for the advice John. As Nick has pointed out it is U.S. based so blocking is the only resort which I have done

Pinterest is probably the most frustrating site on the internet. It contains millions of images (including some really fascinating ones), but mostly without any explanation. To make matters worse, most of the images are copied from elsewhere.
As noted above, Pinterest sends at least one email every day, and is impossible to get rid of. Hitting unsubscribe makes no difference. Don't sign up! |

Yes, sadly the only way to deal with these kinds of sites is to block them. Most will honour the "Unsubscribe" link in the email but if it does not have one, you are stuffed.
If I am not sure of a site but they want me to sign up I use a throw-away email address obtained by using the "Bloody Vikings" plug-in for Firefox where you can choose one of several such email providers (sometimes sites know about some of these and won't let you use their email addresses so you may need to try more than one - at which point it usually becomes more hassle than it is worth). Firefox also blocks many trackers by default. I never click on Pinterest links now 'cos as Edmund observes, it's just a collection of mostly stolen images minus any context or other useful content. |

They (all 'sites) are after information to sell and misuse. It's an unfortunate fact of life today. I have so many e-mail addresses it's not funny. There's a few I have yet to use. Your best hope is to get lost in the crowd.

Can you not set your e-mail platform to treat a site's messages as junk mail and just have junk mail sent straight to oblivion? That's what I do.

On balance the "block sender" option looks as if it may have been the best option Mike |
