Default Foma Ortho 400

This is a new film in 120 only at the moment from Foma which has just been announced so may not make it to our shores for a month or so but can be ordered direct from Foma I believe

I have seen pics on the Foma site which demonstrate its effects. The pics are of the same woman with red hair taken with panchro and then ortho and the effect of ortho is quite striking. It appears "more" ortho than Ilford's in that reds are truly black in a way I haven't noticed in pics taken on Ilford and both orange and yellow are very dark

It may be no more a 400 speed than Foma 400 is a genuine 400 speed film but even allowing for this it may still be faster than Ilford's Ortho 80 Plus.

If we have anyone here interested in Ortho then this may be worth a look

Thanks for sharing this news Mike.

Can you give a link to the pics that you mention on the Foma site, as I can't seem to find the bits you mention.

Many thanks,

Terry S

Sorry Terry, I can't. I saw these on Photrio and while the respondent said he has got them from the Foma site I don't know where

Thanks to you both, Michael and Mike, for the info and the link.

I have some Ilford Ortho film that I'm ready to try, so it will be interesting to compare my effort to the ones on the Foma site.

And wow, what a difference some of the colours have in the two different film pictures.

As for the mention of the ISO of 400 being a bit off, it seems to work at that speed and the last two pictures shot at higher ISO's of 1250 and 3200 look good too.

The last two sets of pics are recent additions which I hadn't seen before

In my opinion the two at 1250 and especially at 3200 look like "last resort" ones in the sense of only to be used if the light conditions demand it

A comparison with Ilford ortho will be interesting Terry

Purely subjective but from what I have seen the Foma ortho looks to be a more extreme ortho than Ilford and I can see situations, albeit in a minority of occasions only where the Foma might give a more powerful look

Back in the old days of b&w pics of football matches this would not have been a film to use at the derby match of Newcastle v Sunderland
