Hello from Edinburgh
My name is Roger Hyam and I'm a darkroom user.
Back in the 1980's I thought photography might be career. I spent a couple of years as a darkroom technician in a university department and doing stock photography on my days off. None of it was particularly financially viable long term so I went back into science and computers as the day job. The family have now more-or-less left home and I can make the box room a part time darkroom. I've run through a bucket list of techniques over the last few years: wet-plate, reversing film, reversing prints, salt prints, argyrotypes, 16mm, 35mm, 120, 4x5, 8x10, 10x12 etc etc. At the moment I'm more or less settled on making my own silver gelatine plates and printing on contemporary papers - but things may change at any moment! My philosophy is absurdism sensu Albert Camus. Doing darkroom work in this day and age is absurd - but so is everything else - so embrace it! I blog a little here: http://www.hyam.net/blog/
