And received today - a gorgeous print of a forest scene near river Fowey on Bodmin Moor. The level of captured detail, tone separation and overall contrast is just stunning - from what I assume was a quite dull lighting.
Thanks Jakub |

Hi Mike. I agree on the convenience of RC, and the image quality an be very fine. Some even tones niely in selenium.
Somehow, though, I find myself tending to use fibre. Probably can't break the habit now. Preferred method is to use slightly oversize paper so I have wide print border. I then tape the wet prints to a window amd they dry very flat. Unfortunately I went into the darkroom the other weekend and had nothing left bigger than 10x8. So, printed with a normal border, dried on a line, and now flattening. I have some iron plates left over from Ye Olden Dayes when I lifted weight. They are now redundant exept for print flattening. Prints between two hevy books and a pile of weight on top. If that fails a quick pass with a warm iron (steam turned off!) works wonders. |

Another one is on the road. I assume the first one did not make it.
Made me generally thinking to put one print in a bottle and throw it in the river here. Just an idea to promote darkroom prints. :-) Frank Last edited by PanFrank; 26th September 2019 at 07:04 PM. |

Hi Mike,
Well received your print and I am much delighted about it. Mike made a photograph of an undercroft in Lanercost Priory motivated mainly by "quite interesting lighting". I take that as typical English understatement. It's brilliant and the difficulties with low light are technically excellently solved. It's clear and sharp. Never seen such a contrast printed on grade 1. An eye-opener in many ways. Thanks! Frank |

One of a decaying abandoned bus in a desolate landscape with a very threatening sky. The print was on Agfa FB paper which has a warm ivory base giving it an overall warm feeling. This really suits the subject giving it a warm muggy feeling. I generally associate the Hebrides with being cool and bracing! Yes, we do have the same tradition here - cars dumped in and around quarries but there has been a relatively recent clear-up of such a site not far from my house. I do not know whether to be pleased or disappointed - photographically speaking. The second was a selenium toned print on Ilford Cooltone paper from a Horizon Panoramic Camera of a Glasgow street scene in or just after rain - very suitable and atmospheric treatment. Thanks very much, Mike |
