Welcome Jules,
I am starting to realize that FADU is very "UK centric". Not that there is anything wrong with that, but sometime for us foreigners it takes a minute to figure out where you are actually from. I thought it must be some place in Russia, so looked it up. ++++++++++++ Basingstoke Also known as; Basingrad Boringstoke Basingjoke Amazingstoke Basingvegas |

Wow, thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
The first day of the course was yesterday evening, and all I can say is I'm hooked. The second day is tomorrow and I am planning on booking darkroom time for the coming weekend. Yesterday was a basic intro to the dark room basics and etiquette when working in a multi occupant darkroom. They have five 35mm enlargers, two multiformat (medium format and 4x5) and one 8x10 enlarger. All have multigrade heads. Yesterday I produced the first print I have made in a very long time (about 20 years) on Ilford RC paper. Tomorrow we are going to be dodging and burning and trying fibre prints too. I have a feeling that once I have got into the swing of things, I will be back for the intermediary course. Also, spot on Frank |

That's not a bad darkroom and course you have found there, comrade Jules .
I take it that it is in or near Basingstoke? If so that great news. The number of places with even 5x4 enlargers let alone an 8x10 must be very few Mike |

Unfortunately not, it was in Brixton. But it was worth the trip, and late nights getting home. So yesterday was dodging, burning, archival processing, split filtration and fibre based printing and drying.
I've booked the Saturday slot, so will be going back and seeing what results I can get with some of my other negatives (I only brought a handful for the course). Should be interesting. There is a photo club near Basingrad that has a darkroom, but I haven't contacted them yet to find out their facilities. |
