Another Newby
Name is Skip, from just outside Washington DC.
Photography has always been part of what I do around other things, but only recently elbowed its way into my life as an avocation. Have always has A camera and that's involved everything and literally almost every type and brand at some point. Yes, I'm a geezer... should be obvious! Recently re-entered with digital and ran through a number of systems before hitting on the objective to "NOT do this" and started collecting Zeiss Contax CY lenses...'cause they were at least as good, smaller, and cheaper (even after a full refurb). This led to a Sony digital with IBIS to shoot them... which scratched that itch... fully. Yet the digital obsolescence still annoyed in a nagging way. So given that I've always loved B&W and been enamored of handheld meters with the Zone System, I looked longingly at the Leica's M Monochrom's and M10... but couldn't pull that trigger and went instead for a meterless Leica M4-2 and some Zeiss ZM glass. Cost of development/scanning then led last month to developing and scanning film at home in ways that have opened up a lot of the fun of photography for the first time. Walking with a camera is fun again! and with a (largely) unmarked 40+ year-old camera, pretty incognito. Not sure where I'm headed yet, but digital is less and less what I do for fun, and film what I do for the more "serious photography". Have found travel with photography enjoyable, and connecting with local photographer guides a great way to learn an area and make contact as well as learn and have fun. Look to more of this whether to Europe, Palousse, or locally. Coming to this site after looking up Harry Fearn (RIP author of "Better in B&W") and finding an article here. Look to learn more from others about shooting film, films, development, etc. 'cause shooting film may be broadening a bit again, but it's a small community that even the local camera club seems to serve less and less? |

Welcome Skip. When I looked at your name I had thought it likely you were a French Canadian as opposed to a Washingtonian.
With a Leica and Zeiss glass you look to be well equipped Mike |
