GRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I just wrote a long post and then closed it by mistake, so you will now only get a much shorter version...

At the last minute I checked Amazon UK and bought my Sodium Sulphite / Sulfite there.

The company I bought from include p/p so there are no shocks at the final stage of paying. I saved about £10 when compared to either Firstcall or APC pure direct as they both add on p/p at the end. What tickled me more was that the product was APC pure branded in FOUR 500gm tubs. And as usual the more you buy the more you get per £pound as the p/p is included in the smallest order. I ordered 2 x 1KG containers of SS, to get it in smaller containers to keep it fresher. I could have ordered 2 1/2KG in a bucket and it would have been cheaper still, but one has to stop somewhere. I could easily have bought 5KG in a bucket, which works out cheaper still per KG...

Check them out here. They are called 'Source Chemicals' and I definitely be bookmarking them:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sodium-Sulp...ps%2C73&sr=8-4

Note that they quote about 3 weeks for delivery, but I ordered over the weekend, it was dispatched by 48 hour Royal Mail on Monday and it arrived today, Wednesday. They also provide tracking details on the order page on Amazon.

One very happy customer.

So do they stock either of are there some common photo chems they don't stock?

Thanks

Mike
Hi Mike, I've only used APC once in the past for some sodium sulphite. I've just checked their site and it doesn't look like they do either of the items you want.

When I've bought it in the past, and with so few places offering it, I have got both of them off of eBay UK as even Amazon don't seem to offer them anywhere.

Glad to be of service.

BTW, does anyone know of a folder in the main forum list, in which to put this seller, as I can't imagine many would find this message when looking for SS or other chemicals?

Sounds OK to me, Bill, but if it were possible to differentiate those retailers who sell raw chemicals from others who are solely selling ready prepared branded stuff that would be even better

Pure Sodium Sulfite (Na2SO3), Sodium Sulfate (Na2SO4) & Sodium Sulfide (Na2S) are all colourless, yellow colour in both would probably be introduced by contamination with either elemental sulphur, or by sodium polysulphides. Low purity forms of the sulfide are typically yellow for this reason.

Thanks for that info. Well explained and I think that I'll stick to the purer white stuff.

Mike: from my search they do not appear to stock Phenidone or Metol - 'tho they do stock Catechol (aka Pyrocatechol).

I recently bought some Phenidone and other chems from Nik & Trick (https://ntphotoworks.com), as a bit of an experiment which was painless, if a little slow.
