Default Depardon's Glasgow

Some photos of Glasgow that were taken for the The Sunday Times Magazine in 1980 but were never used. They have since been published in book form.

I think the phrase "cold light colour" captures those shots very well. What he was seeing was replicated in large North of England cities as well such as Leeds and Liverpool

The colour here actually does a better job that the conventional b&w that is normally employed

Coming from a long line of Glaswegians on my father's side I can attest to an openness and cheerfulness that is woven with elements of black humour

The picture showing the lady in the bright red coat, she is a spitting image of Mrs Brown, as played by the Irish Actor Brendan Carrol in the comedy sitcom.

One of the older men in suits outside a pub reminds me of one of the "residents of the "Clansman" in Still Game

they remind me very much like the eastend of London ,a lot of working class areas were like that ,as I grew up in Bethnal green I can remember the tenement blocks and old churches and pubs being knocked down .and loads of dumps /debris /bomb sites ,for us scruffy cockney kids to play on .it may look bad but it was the best place for us kids to grow up in ,one giant adventure playground ........Great days ..
