Thanks for that clarification Richard. Seems to match my experience exactly!
It does appear to be a good film, my first roll of it. Trying to find a replacement for my faithfull old Tri-X now that the price of that has gone through the darkroom roof.

Trying Bergger Pancro400 next, so if anyone has any tips for that it would be appreciated.

I have found that the Fomapan 400 is a very close match to the old, original, as it was when it was first made, before Kodak started mucking about with it, I used to love Tri x, it was my main film for years, but, like you, I was looking for something to replace it when Kodak started messing with it, and that is how I first tried Fomapan, around 25 years ago, and I have not changed since

I bought ten rolls of 120 ,100asa ,I have had a love hate affair with this film ,the 5x4 is a great film and have no problems with that ,I think it is a film you have to get used to as I have with there large format film . I have already shot one roll and I will see how it goes ..
