Who's doing Lith??
Once upon a time there was Fotospeed lith paper. Processed in Fotospeed lith dev you were rewarded with all kinds of colours, which could be tuned in selenium or sepia. Soft pinks, peaches, browns. It could be very pretty, in fact so pretty almost all my lith prints left home to live with other people . . .
The dev is still here, but the papers gone. So, is anyone doing lith, and what are the most responsive papers still out there? I read that Ilford MGWT was a contender, but just looks like mud to my eyes. Who's getting results they like? |

There is only one man to get info on lith printing and that is Tim Rudman. Webpage and regular newsletter by email.

I do a bit. Best results for me are with Foma 131 paper - warm tones and fairly predictable behaviour. Some negs come out well on Slavich paper which is a lot colder than the Foma and less predictable I find.
Bob Carnie has a YouTube video showing how he uses Ilford Warmtone paper... nothing much happens until it goes in the fixer, he says - but it doesn't really work for me when using Moersch Easylith (he uses Fotospeed Lith - whether that makes any difference or not I can't say). I think Tim Rudman suggests bleaching back& redevelopment for this paper but I haven't got round to trying that out myself yet. Michael |

I still lith print occasionally using the same papers I have in stock for Bromoils:
Imago Slavich Foma 131 (the old version that lithed) I also use any old paper that will lith that may come my way and surprisingly there is still some of this about. My lith developer is Kodak Lith developer (liquid) that is now about 20 years old! My paper preference is Slavich which once you get to know it produces wonderful lith proints. The Slavich and the Imago papers are sadly no longer made but Peter in Dublin still has some Slavich and the old Foma is stock. Neil

I've had a pack of Moersch Easylith at home for a few years now and I still have some of the lithable Fomatone 131 papers. What I will try later this year is lith redevelopment on Ilford MG WT - my first time...
Will probably try "real" lith printing next year...

Thanks, Neil. That’s a pity about Slavich. I have one pack I bought to see if I liked it. I have yet to open it.

Well, Alex, that makes two of. I bought a pack of Slavich Bromoportait to try just before I had to put away my darkroom. Had forgotten until I began unpacking the other week. Seems I also bought some Ilford Galerie!
I wanted to try the Slavich as it's a chlorobromide, like the now lost Kentona, and I fancied it might give the same rich blacks. Hope to crack it open this weekend. Ordering some Fotospeed lith dev tonight. It's going to be a bit disappointing if Slavich liths well but is no longer imported. |

My SO bought something from a charity shop not long back.
Its a sealed box that I've been meaning to open in the dr but I haven't got round to it. I've no idea what it is. It says Kodak Photographic paper on the front. On the seal on the back it says Kodalith TM TM = Translucent Material I think, so I'm confused by what it might be, well, that and the wratten 1a filter you're supposed to use as a safelight with it. 100 sheets at 12x15, anybody know what this is without me cracking it open.. |
