Jack Sharp collection
Came across this whilst browsing the Pentax forum:
https://www.jacksharp.co.uk/home Some background here: https://petapixel.com/2020/08/24/man...s-grandfather/ Truly wonderful photos, as good as any I've seen from much more famous street photographers of the day.

A real slice of 50s life, thanks Svend. I note that all of the photos could only be saved for posterity via an Epson scanner. Luckily enough the author makes a link to the very device
It might just be possible, I suppose, that darkroom prints could be done as well but the good people at Epson who may have helped the author might object to any mention of an alternative to a scanner such as a darkroom So the Epson it is. Anyone want a smelly old darkroom. I have one for sale Mike |

When I found this site I thought "Gee, if I post this on FADU I wonder if Collas has already beat me to it?". Just the kind of thing you're famous for seeking out and sharing here, Nick.
What a gift to have a grandson who actually has the aesthetic sense to recognize how excellent these images are, and then preserve them and put them out for us to enjoy. Had it been anyone else, they may have been tossed out. The images are excellent not just in terms of subject and composition, but are technically very, very good indeed. Sharp's sense of light, film choice, development....really top notch. I suppose some of it is the grandson having a go with the scans in a photo editor, but I'd venture that the negs are first rate. I can only hope that my daughters and grandchildren show the same appreciation for my images in 50 years time.

God they're good- I've picked this up on a general catch up on forums and so on after a month or so of being waylaid with tedious wage-slavery. Thanks so much Svend for posting.
It's interesting if you read the background that the guy was a real technophile and devoted to understanding relevant formulae for anything he did (being a CERN scientist)... right, that said, what amazing feel for texture and humanity! |

Glad you all like this. If anyone here is on Instagram, the grandson posts one new photo daily under his handle @jacksharp_photo. It's a refreshing foil to all the self-promotional "look at me!" type posts on there.
