Default Large format shooter returning to the UK

Hello all,

I'm literally just about to return to the UK (my flight leaves in three hours) having been living in Australia for the past two and a half years and New Zealand before that. I've been shooting with large format for three years now and really enjoy that format. I had my own darkroom for a short while and will be looking forward to setting something up when I get back to the UK (I'll be moving down to London for work).

I just started getting into contact printing my 8x10 negatives (it's going to take me a while to get used to start saying it backwards! 10x8!) so have plenty to learn yet.

And if anyone can suggest or point me to any public darkrooms, ideally in north west London, that I can use to keep me going until I get my own set up again, that would be great.

Anyway, just a quick hello! Looking forward to getting involved with the forum and if anyone is interested in having a look at my large format blog, go to http://largeformatphotography.com.au - it's mainly aimed at the Australian community but I've been publishing stories that are relevant for any location.

Cheers (and sorry for the shameless plug!)

Alastair

Welcome Alastair to FADU and back to the U.K. London is certainly the place to live if in need of a public darkroom but there's nothing like having it in your own house/garage/garden.

I hope we can help in any way we can.

Mike

Welcome to FADU Alastair. Checking a list from when I lived in London - up until 2011 - you could try these:

The Camera Club

Street Level Photoworks

ZoomIn

PhotoFusion

They get expensive though! I used Photo Fusion for about a year, nice people and friendly. In the end I went back to having my own darkroom as the costs and travel etc. made it cheaper in the long run.

Hi Alastair,

Welcome back. What's going to happen to your large format blog now you're in the UK? I remember you gave The Online Darkroom a plug a while back when Andrew Sanderson wrote an article on paper negs. I always thought your blog sort of "peaked" around that time. :-)
