Default Hello from Yorkshire

Hello to you all, my name is Paul Mac and I'm from Yorkshire UK.

I worked for many years as a press photographer on a local newspaper before moving on to work for a national press agency. I have recently semi retired and instead of the day to day agency stuff I have decided to work for myself and just cover the odd news job that interests me.

Like many I started out on film cameras using Rolleiflexes and Hasselblads and then moved over to 35mm with Nikon F3's and finally F5's.

When digital came along I resisted for a while but then changed over to the Nikon D1H for all the news work, eventually ending up with the D3 and D3S.

I always though preferred the look of film and still carried a Black and White Leica along for my own personal projects. I kept my darkroom (thank goodness) with my pride and joy, a gorgeous Leitz V35.

As a retirement present to myself I have recently bought a Fuji GF670 folding rangefinder which I am absolutely loving using. It is just so fantastic to be able to use 120 film again. I use it set at the 6x7 negative size (a new size and experience for me) and print it with a LPL C 7700 enlarger and Componon S lens. The results from TMAX 100 and Fomapan 100 both developed in good old D76 have blown me away and it's like stating out all over again!! Film is just such a wonderful medium to work with and I had forgotten just how good MF is compared to the digital files that have been my mainstay for many years.

So glad that I found this brilliant site and look forwards to contributing to it in the future.

Regards Paul Mac Yorkshire

PS I still have my old Rolleiflex 2.8F and I have really enjoyed reading all the Rollei related posts, especially the servicing recommendations, which I shall be taking on board as I will have to have it CLA'd.

I'm over in North Yorkshire - as are a few others here - so welcome to another Yorkshire resident.
I was recently watching a review of that 6x7 camera - looks very nice.

Welcome Paul, that's a long and hard apprenticeship you served with film.

There is something about Yorkshire and film. Half of FADU is from there Nice to have local FADU neighbours
