Default Capturing the Light - Book

Not seen this mentioned so apologies if it has.
I've just finished a fascinating book about the birth of photography. Written by Roger Watson (Curator of the Fox Talbot Museum at Lacock Abbey) and Helen Rappaport (historian) it tells the stories of Louis Daguerre and Henry Fox Talbot and their almost parallel efforts to capture and fix an instance of time. (earlier attempts by Wedgwood and Niepce are both acknowledged for their efforts also btw).

The book is a great mixture of history, art and technique and moves along at a good pace so kept me hooked for a few weeks.

I borrowed mine from our local library so it may also be available in yours. Highly recommended read.

I echo that enthusiastically. I bought it when it came out, after reading an early review in (I think) the RPS journal. Anything by Roger Taylor is going to be good; and this one was very informative and enjoyable indeed.

Oops, wrong Roger - but I'll leave his name in anyway

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago, after seeing it in Waterstones. Haven't started it yet but look forward to reading it, especially considering the above positive reviews from Tony and Michael.

Funny that - when I was writing the post I typed Roger Waters - think it's my age!
