I used it years ago, but only grade 3. It's a really high quality paper. The surface of the glossy version is very nice. I don't know how I'd get on with it now that I've been using Multigrade paper for so long, but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you like graded papers.

It is lovely paper that I used to use a good few years ago. You will not be disapointed if you give it a try.

I will echo what Alex and Neil said -- it's very good paper. I have been out of the darkroom for a long time (presently building up a new one), but Galerie was my standard go-to paper. It has a classic look to it, and tones well with Selenium and Sepia. I preferred it over the Agfa papers of the day, which I found lacked the depth and clarity of Galerie. The only papers I thought gave richer tones were Oriental Seagull and Kodak Elite, which were wonderful. I hear Seagull is not the same today as it was, so Galerie may be the better choice today. Once I start printing again this winter I will also try to find a source of Galerie graded paper -- not easy to find on this continent, and much more expensive than MG at almost twice the price.
Good luck! Svend |

Ideally with Galerie you need a developer like Dr Beers variable contrast which is essentially a soft working dveloper and a contrasty developer and you mix the two to suit the contrast you require.
I used to have !D-3 (soft) and ID-14 (contrast) developers alongside my normal developer when using Galerie. The grades are firther apart compared to other papers. Ian |

I haven't used it for a good few years (mainly because I went to the other side and then stopped doing photography totally). I was looking at getting hold of some the other day. You could try here:-
http://www.harmanexpress.com/prod/35...GALERIE-FB.htm They do a great service and £50+ (not hard to do these days) it is carriage free. |

I can only say that I echo what others have said, It is a long time since I used it, but the was a time when I eschewed MG paper for graded and my main paper was Gallerie, a lovely paper, try it, you will not be dissapointed

I will order some then and see how I like it ,as by what everybody has said about it I think I will ..as I said before I used to use kentmere bromide grade 2 paper ,I loved this paper ,it was a lot cheaper than the Ilford paper so I presume that was the reason they stopped making it and as I am down to my last 80 sheets I need a replacement ,I don't use it all the time ,just on certain negatives ,otherwise I mostly use Ilford multi grade FB paper ..

I love Galerie
The Harman web site sells the it - http://www.harmanexpress.com/prod/35...GALERIE-FB.htm You can understand why retailers are reluctant to hold it in stock - as its a very slow selling product. If your normal supplier is Ag, then call them, I'm sure they will order it for you. Galerie has a different response curve to more modern multi-grade papers, so gives a different look to a print - which may or may not suit a particular image. As Ian says - it responds well to Dr Beers hard and soft developers Martin |
