Ready Made Pinhole
I was cleaning out an empty coffee bean tin and noticed a tiny hole in the base. I think this hole is used to form a Vacuum, then sealed with a plastic adhesive square.
Any pin hole enthusiasts that use tinned coffee beans should inspect their pantry stock. I remember seeing a similar hole in a tin of powdered Chinese soup base. The hole is smooth both sides, and I wonder if it is pierced with a laser for ease of production. http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1664099352 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1664099352 http://www.film-and-darkroom-user.or...1&d=1664099352 A pair if old scissors and cutters should liberate the pin hole from the tin. Cheers.

I think this hole is used as a sniffhole, avoiding the bean tin becoming a bomb.
Fresh beans are outgasing CO2 for some weeks. Unfortunately to me this Illy stuff hasn' had a fresh taste. That's why I prefer small roasting shops. ""A pair if old scissors and cutters should liberate the pin hole from the tin."" Why not simply using the complete bean tin as a lens barrel? It's rear has a thread so only a kind of flange is needed :-) |

My next purchase of coffee, I'll be checking the bottom of the tins, as well as checking the price; the roast etc. etc. Terry S |
