6x9 Durst enlarger
I have a Durst M670 VC with film holders etc. up to 6x7. I have long wanted also to do some 6x9 but it seems my enlarger can't take that. There is no room in my darkroom for a second enlarger so the option is rather to get something that accepts 35mm and 120 including 6x9, and preferably something that could be an expansion of my present enlarger system.
Can anybody help with an idea or tell about ways to get onn top of this problem? Peter |

Meopta Magnifax 4 does 35-6x9. I had one, but gave it away as I already had 2 enlargers. There seemed to be plenty of spares available for it at the time. My MF enlarger is a Durst. I like them and, like you, would prefer to stick with them if changing format. I'm not sure which Durst models do 6x9, but some if the 'professional' ones are very large. The Modular 70 may be a possibility. Perhaps someone here will know if it does 6x9. Alex

I've got a Meopta Magnifax 4a, with the rare Meograde head. It's a fantastic enlarger. No problem covering 6x9, as long as you have the correct mixing box in the head.
Be aware supply of spares is drying up. I bought what I'm fairly sure was the last pair of glasses for the negative holder available in the UK, and replacement 6x9 mixing boxes are unobtainable, so make sure if you buy one that all parts you need are intact. Ian |

I have a Durst M800 which does up to 6x9 with the right condensor - I have 3 - condensors that is.

I think Durst also did a 690/695 enlarger. (6x9)
Fairly sure it was the same chassis as your 670 but with a slightly larger head. I might be wrong, however, not being a Durst user You might try Northern Photo - who do Durst spares for some accurate information - http://www.northernphoto.co.uk/ Martin |

Peter,
My advice would be to check that you really want to stop at 6*9 - if you are considering 5*4 sheet, you would be wise to make the space for a 5*4 enlarger. This is what I did, moving from a durst 670 to a durst pictochrom (basically a fancy L1200). It's ace, although rather large... |

I have a Meopta Magnifax 4a which I use occasionally and while it can print 6x9 full frame, the construction of the enlarger is rather "rustic"...

I never rounded this thread off. Thank you for good advice and comments.
In the meantime I've realised that 6x7 (have a Mamiya 7 II) is plenty enough size for my photography so I stay with the Durst 670. And with time must admit I increasingly appreciate simplicity - (like the world famous painter who ended up using only one brush and one colour) Peter |
