Bob. Would you ok with posts using an external link to personal online file storage?
I would be prepared to dig out some of the Mamiya twin lens C series service manuals and upload them but at 60-130 pages each they're going to be pretty large in file size. I have plenty of space that's not used and they would remain there so long as my feet are pointing downwards.

Edit> That would be 120-260 pdf pages each.

I don't see why not in principle. I guess it depends on what kind of online file store you use - some are a bit on the dodgy side or require registration etc ...

By all means give it a try and if there are issues, I can FTP them to the server here and we can link to them there.

No, you wouldn't need to shop for an iPad or take a survey!

Will do. Just back home so when things have settled down I'll make a start.

For a few months I have used a different computer that has no scanner with it, but my new computer is due to arrive soon so I'll contribute anything I have that isn't already there.

Default File sizes

I've finally got round to adding a few manuals to the section today, but even in pdf format some were to large to upload.

As a temp measure, and until I can figure out how to resize them, I have listed them with a request to PM me.

Hope that is ok

Ian

Sorry guys - been too busy at work to get the size limit sorted. I've got more time now so I'll jump on it.

The Upload limit has now been raised to 20M and I have changed the allowed maximum upload limits within the forum software to allow upload of this size for .pdf .doc .docx and .zip files.

However, another limit has raised it's annoying head!

If the upload takes more than about 30 - 40s seconds, it aborts with an error:

Quote:
Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

As 30s is the default timeout period for most databases, I suspect this may be database related.

In any event, I have uploaded a test file that is 6.5MB without issue, but when I tried one that was 10MB it aborted on me as above after about 40s.

I'll investigate the (suspected) database issue but for now, you should be OK for files < 5 or 6 MB

[Edit: I have been able to upload 7MB files consistently and I now have my doubts about the error being a database issue so please let me know if you get the error and how large the file was and how long it took for the upload to be aborted) - tnx.]

Cheers, Bob.

Found another tweak that allows the full 20MB uploads.

However - you guessed it - another limit has raised it's head...

Downloads now stop @ 16MB - any uploaded file over 16MB will stop downloading @ 16MB and so will be corrupted.

Looking at other's similar problems online, I think this is finally a hard database limit. We were thinking about moving all attachments and images etc out of the database and in to the file system. This may be the straw that finally pushes us to do that.

Anyway - 16MB files are now OK.
