Bill, I primarily use it for 35mm to 4x5, but for 8x10 I like using Rodinal diluted 1:25 although I do use pyro if conditions are of high contrast. The reason I started using Rodinal on the 8x10 negatives was for platinum/palladium printing because the staining of pyro made exposure times quite long.
