Default Hello from Sheffield, England

Hi everybody, Just a quick introduction. I'm Luke age 21 from Sheffield in England and after gathering a large shutter count on my DSLR I want to get back to the routes of photography with film starting with a Brownie 620 Model E which I recently purchased for a £5 on eBay. I also have a small pantry at my parents house (still live at home for now) that I have had the go ahead to use as a darkroom as I buy more equipment and develop my knowledge however I am currently only using the room to rent spool 120 onto 620 and load my patterson tank. Hopefully this venture will truly help me learn photography.

Welcome Luke. I admire your effort and enthusiasm in loading 120 onto 620 spools. If you are happy to undertake that then a lot of the rest of darkroom work will be a "doddle" as they say.

Mike

Hi Luke and welcome to Fadu.

Like Mike says... That's dedication!

There should be plenty of 120 cameras going for a song so don't give up.

Welcome aboard Luke.

It may be worth trying to load the camera with a 120 spool of film on the feed side and only using a 620 spool on the take-up side. I understand that often works as long as there is enough room for the 120 spool to fit - saves a lot of hassle if it works. With my couple of old Ensign folders, I find I can use them this way (actually, a 120 spool on the take-up side works OK most of the time but they can snag a bit and slip).

Have fun, Bob.

Thank you all for your kind messages. I will be looking for a newer medium format camera in the near future, hopefully for Christmas! In the mean time I think the suggestion of loading the 120 into the camera and spooling it onto the 620 is a great idea if the spool actually fits the the camera haha.
