Good morning FADU
Morning all,
Thought I should take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Kev, living in Ashby (Leicestershire) and over the last couple of years I've been getting into film photography. I've got an acute case of Gear Acquisition Syndrome which helps distract from the fact I have zero artistic vision. I predominantly shoot with a Bronica SQA with a pretty good selection of lenses and use a Sony A700 as a glorified polaroid. I've converted part of my garage into a darkroom, the only thing missing is running water for print washing but seeing as none of my prints are worth hanging I don't worry about it too much. The big stumbling block with this is that I want to try lith printing this year which requires FB papers which require proper washing for a long time. I'm going to set up a water butt in my garden because I'm too tight to pay those ****** at Severn Trent any more than I have to (on a merter). I see a few familiar faces from the Talk Photography forum already and I look forward to getting to know the rest of you in due course as I pick your brains. Right, that's me, I'm now off to continue mounring the loss of Neopan400. Cheers, Kev |

Hi Kev and welcome to fadu, don"t worry too much about running water in your darkroom an fb paper, you can always do what I and others do, use a holding bath and wash in a washer at the end of the session,Richard

Hello Kev and welcome to FADU.
With lith printing you can use RC papers and it is just a case of finding the right one. Have a look at Tim Rudman's excellent site where he has a list of currently available papers that respond to lith development. Neil.

Hi Kev and welcome The Midlands contingent grows. Good idea with the water butt. We watch 100's of gallons disappear off our roofs every winter and spring and into a soakaway or even into the mains sewer and then pay the water companies to deliver some of it back to us.

Welcome aboard Kev.
Instead of running water you can do several soaks. Soak the print in a few inches of water for 10 mins, then replace the water and repeat - soak and dump five or six times and the paper will be fully washed, especially if you use some hypo-clear before the washing. I used to do this: out of the fixer; quick rinse + soak 10 mins; soak 10 mins; quick rinse + hypo-clear 10 mins; rinse + soak 10 mins; soak 10 mins; soak 10 mins,; soak 10 mins; squeegee the print once and dry on screens. Some people have said it only needs 3 or 4 soaks but I never tested for that few. A HT2 test and the lack of staining when toning showed my scheme worked very well. This was with "normal" processing developer but unless an expert on Lith says otherwise, it should work fine with Lith too. Have fun, Bob. |
