I always use 2 clips for 16x20" prints and only one clip for 8x10".

I could imagine 2 clips would be much better for 12x16" prints too.

This way I've only suffered a tear once in a blue moon and normally it was because I hadn't put the clip straight for example.

Shame the clips cost an arm and a leg but I'd just bite the bullet and get the minimum you'd need and try and pick the rest up 2ndhand.

I thought that was what they recommended anyways for 16x12. I was told that when I acquired mine, even with RC paper.

I have also done fibre papers up to 9.5x12 with one standard clip with no problems. It may depend on the particular paper, however, as some are reputedly quite fragile. MG IV fibre works no problem, as does Foma Chamois. 8x10s can be clipped on the short side in the larger Novas which makes them easier to handle safely. Alex

Agreed, you just need to be gentle. I've processed 16x12 FB papers in a standard Nova with one clip for years, I can only remember having one fall off the clip.

I have never had a problem using the clips provided for fibre based prints, you just have to make sure the two pins are located properly.

Anyway I don't think there are any other style or design of clip available.

Nova did make a tank for fibre paper with the slots wider than the standard tank which accepted a cradle type paper holder to support the wet fibre print. I think the tank was angled a bit and had a clear plastic side so you could see the image forming to judge when to pull the print out. I don't know if many were sold it was a bit more expensive.

I have the fibre tank that Tony mentions and it has sloping slots and I use the cradle type holder for fibre and RC as the standard clips don't work well with the slope, the most important thing after processing is to make sure the holder is clean and dry especially in the slot at the bottom of the holder.
I also have a standard 8x10 3 slot mono processor that I use 1 slot for warm tone developer I stand this in front of the sloping processor so that I don't have to fill 2 processors with stop and fix, it works very well.

Interestingly there are some narrow print processing holders which use wire at each corner to retain the print, for sale on e-bay right now. These look as if they might have used for FB prints and seem narrow enough to fit inside a Nova processor

Hi Mike, do you have a link for these? I looked but couldn't find them.

Hi Stocky,

I had my eye on these but they have now gone!

New Nova ones are available online though from the various photographic sellers.
