Default Enlarger lens

Hello all.

I own a Meopta 7 with a 4.5/80mm Componon-s. If I would enlarge a 6x6 negative up to 50cmx50cm, what lens would you recommend to use?

Thanks.

The easiest way to do large prints with your enlarger from 6x6 is to use a wide- angle lens the 60mm f4 Rodagon-WA is an excellent choice.

Domingo, I assume that you have already tried the 80mm you have got and the enlarger column doesn't get the lens high enough to do 50cm x 50cm?

No point in buying another lens if the 80mm will do the job. I am no expert but for a 6x6 neg does a 60mm give enough coverage?

For a Durst enlarger you can buy a column extension for bigger prints. If you can do the same for your enlarger and can find one then it might be cheaper than a 60mm lens.

Many enlargers, you can rotate the head and/or column, either project on to a wall or the floor.

The 60mm f4 Rodagon-WA is designed to make larger prints from 6x6.

Any 80mm 6 element lens from a recognised manufacturer should give you good service.

you assume correctly.

mine can do that too, but this solution collides with the fact I have very little space in my home lab.

I'm looking for one; maybe a Componon-S, a EL-Nikkor, a Rodagon... I own a Componar-S 4.5/80mm -four elements, three groups- wich is, maybe, a good lens to start, but I guess not very good for big enlargements.

It seems to me that if you cannot raise the enlarger head any higher and cannot fit a longer column then you are left with only two solutions.
1. lower your enlarger so that you can fit a longer column.
2. Buy a wide angle lens as suggested by Jon.

Have you tried reversing the enlarger on the baseboard and projecting the image toward the florr? It's certainly possible to do that with my Meopta Opemus.
Naturally, you have to secure the baseboard to the work surface or put something heavy on it.

risky business, I guess. I'll think about that.

Thanks for the idea, David.
