tar removal
Colour developer residues ('tar') are soluble in citric acid, available from home-brew chemists. Both 5% w/v solution work well. It's non-toxic (lemon juice) and almost odourless. Be patient - it takes a day or two to work - give it a stir from time to time. Rinse well with water and then 1% w/v washing soda solution to neutralise retained acid.
This procedure only works with colour developer. |

Cleaning
It makes one wonder why, if there are so many cleaning products available on the market to clean the processors. Bleach, Citric Acid and in the past I have used a automotive brake cleaning spray to shift the thickest layers of tar, they all work.
All the above can be used (with care in the case of bleach) and cost a lot less than the cleaner sold by NOVA and require a degree of protective clothing why they still sell it, with the accompanying risks. |
