Default Les mcleans's darkroom workshop

Hello everyone,

I went on one of Les McLean's one-on-one darkroom workshops - and it was brilliant. I thought I already knew a lot about monochrome printing, but working with Les and seeing him in action is an eye opener.

I'm posting this note because, although Les is a member of this forum, he never likes to blow his own trumpet. However there is nothing that he doesn't know about split grade printing, pre and post exposure flashing, developers, including own formula soft and hard print developers, plus toning.

I can see why has he has printed - and continues to print - for some of Britain's best known photographers.

Go for the three day intensive course, based in his own darkroom outside Newcastle. BUT be prepared for early starts and late finishes, and intensive tuition in between. Les is an enthusiast and expects you to be equally hard working, packing in the hours to provide the best possible value for money.

It's even worth going just to sample his wife Marge's home made soup.

And for those who can't get to a Les workshop there is always his excellent book :-)

Neil.
