Default 3D / Stereo Cameras and 127 Film

Hi All,

I am considering a purchase of a 3D camera as something different and a bit of fun.

Like other cameras some use the 127 film. I see that Silverprint sell this format, but are out of stock at the moment. I have checked the other sponsors but not seem to find a listing for this film.

Does anyone else buy 127 film ? if so where from ?

Do any members actually use ( or have any experience of ) 3D cameras ? If so what are your opinions ?

Many thanks
Ian

Ian, I personally would not buy any camera taking 127 film as it is now very hard to obtain, I believe that Fotokemika, the makers of the Efke/adox films were the biggest suppliers of 127, and they are out of production, and whether adox in Germany will cut much is uncertain, I believe that Rollei were cutting some 127, but the market for the size is very small, a great shame as there are some great cameras that take 127 film, indeed, there are some enthusiats that cut 120 down to 127, but I would not know how, I would stick to 120 or 35mm, and there are some 3D cameras that use those sizes, but 3d cameras seem to be few and far between, also, you would need to be able to produce small prints from each negative and also need a special viewer to get the effect, and they are even more rare, I have only seen a few in a few years of camera collecting, it could be fun, but it is a specialist area..

Hi, Ian.
Macodirect has, in this moment, Rollei Nightbird 800 color film in stock. In the past I used the now gone forever Efke 100 : -(.
In alternative you could slit 120 film, I haven't tried but doesn't look too complicated. If you look the Maco web site they also sell 127 empty spools if you decide this method might suit you.

Cheers, M.

Default 3D cameras and film:

Hi Ian,

I do remember wandering round the Euro Photo Centre warehouse in West Drayton seeing these cameras in the late 1970's. They were all 35mm. About five years ago, I was thinking of going digital and selling all my film gear, wondering how much I would get for it, I spent time looking in dealers shops. I did see a s/h example (Kodak I think) in a local dealers shop window for £150.00. I thought it was a rip off.

From your thread I get the impression that you want to use a 3D camera with your enquiry about film. You will need to think about the special viewers or projectors you will need to see your results. This could well prove to be both very hard to find and expensive. I do wonder why they were never that popular those years ago. I never saw any results.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I had hoped to use it as I thought it might be fun to play with a 3D camera.

There are some about that come complete with viewers etc available new from Germany for a reasonable price ( just under £35 inc postage ), that use 35mm, so that is a definite maybe.

My curiosity about 127, was roused through a chance find on Ebay. A complete Bakelite Coronet kit, camera, viewer, box and instructions in near mint condition. The drawback being the film format.

I have bit of a thing for older cameras, maybe that's just me ! but I supect not. I like the thought of "old stuff" being used and not binned, although as it would have been made in the mid 1950's it's not that old, but it was in the BI ( before Ian ) period.

I look forward to reading your further comments.

Many thanks again
Ian

Maybe somewhat ominously, Ian, e-bay holds practically no stock of 127 which might support my feeling that with the demise of Efke no-one is producing it any more. Still to counter this, Silverprint as you say has a notice that its only temporarily out of stock.

Actually I did find one roll of 1932 expired(I'll say!) stock. A bargain at £29.99.

Must be a collector's item? Certainly not a user's item at 80 years old

Mike

Hi Ian,

typing in '3d camera and viewer' on ebay, there seems to be numerous digital versions available, but there is also at the moment ONE 3d camera AND viewer for sale. It also takes 35mm film!!!

In fact I believe it to be the same model that I have tucked away that I keep meaning to use. Maybe this will prompt me into action.

Like yourself I find them fun to use and make even the most average picture a little better to look at. Where you might find it hard to get people to look at eg your holiday snaps, I think this little gadget will encourage them to take a peek! :-)

Hoping the link works, it is as follows:

Hi all, just a quick update. Decided against the Coronet, way to difficult to get the films. So decided to get a 35mm one. Santa should be bringing it ! Will let you all know how I get on.

Ian
