I have new bulbs and cable holders and still have the same problem.
Just had a quote for £98 for the transformer and £70 plus for a stabiliser, not including time and postage. That is more than I paid for it ! Has anybody changed a transformer in an enlarger - is it do-able for someone with little experience in electronics ? David |

no idea since I never tried but you should bear in mind that the transformer will have been designed to fit into the Mod 70 with mounting points etc so if its an actual durst replacement part I doubt its difficult. And if its a durst stabi unit and comes with fitting instructions I doubt thats difficult either. But if they are not durst parts then its anyones guess.
If its an external transformer and you bypass the durst inbuilt one, then thats probably not too difficult if you use a bit of common sense with wiring. Just remember the bulbs generate a lot of heat so be careful where cables are placed.

The bulb is flickering quite a bit now ...
I have opened up the back and looked at guts of the head. I cannot really be sure if I am looking at the transformer that has several wires going in and out - see attached image. I am going to go into Maplin tomorrow with the head and ask about the transformer (http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/105w-low-v...nsformer-nl48c) Richard suggested for Keith Tapscott's transformer thread. Northern Photo cannot do anything for 2 weeks anyway, so may as well give it ago, although it does have all the ingredients for a disaster. David |

I'm not sure what exactly they did, but the problem has been solved. Hopefully, the enlarger will give many more years of reliable service.

I have just been informed from Northern Photo that the stabiliser circuit board was cooked ! The remedy was to bridge this section of the system as it is only required for colour printing. It is a problem that develops with time, the enlarger must be at least 20 years old.
I can get a replacement stabiliser at a later date and fit it myself should I want to print colour. It will be with me tomorrow, all for £60.50 incl postage. David |
