Pyrocatchetol
If you are a Pyrocat user this may be of interest to you...
Silverprint are now only selling Pyrocatchetol in 500g packs at £37.14. As most users mix only 50g at a time and it does not keep well its a great waste of chemicals and money. The only option I can see is a 500g buy with someone (me?) splitting it into 50g lots? Perhaps Ian Grant will comment on the possibility of mixing 500g into Glycol to aid its keeping properties? I tried a Polish supplier but the chemical was bad.

Barry,
Just noticed that 100g is available here for 20.70 + other sized packs. http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/...FclsGwod92sEoA Never used this firm myself so I can't speak from experience. They may be worth a punt Cheers, Neil.

If you bought 500g @ £37.14 plus P&P from Silverprint I would be interested in 100g @ cost to you plus P&P to my address.

Barry, very true, I have run into that problem before with some other companies. Best of luck. Neil.

My experience is that Pyrocatechin keeps reasonably well (over 5 years with no issues), I'd not thought about sissolving it in Glycol.
I've been using Pyrocat HD for over 10 years now, I've only made it up with Glycol once and that was a double strength Part A to take to Turkey (to cut the weight when flying). Normally I just use de-ionised water and the secret is to use reasonably fresh Metabisulphite when making up Pyrocat and also use glass or high density plastic bottles, I use old Ilford or Rodinal developer bottles. It keeps up to 3 years. I used to have an account with Sigma Aldrich, they are an excellent compoany to deal with. Most chemical suppliers need written confirmation of what chemicals are being used for on headed (company) paper. Ian |

Quote:
I was concerned as to its keeping qualities, I have had issues in the past. However the last batch I made was a few months ago (in Glycol) and is still as good a new. I was worried about storing the powder as 500g would last me a long time. It's not the money it just seemed a waste. I'll probably just get some from Silverprint when I need it.
