Nikon RF S3 2000
I just received my, as new, S3 2000. I say as new, it was fully packed in all factory packaging. First impressions are that it is heavy, tank like construction. Entirely hand assembled. Nikon lost money on its production, as it cost more to make than Nikon’s retail price. With only 8000 produced in stainless steel, over two year period. It was made to be marketed only in Japan. The viewfinder is interesting with three fields of view, 35, 50 and 105 visible as the time. It provides a 100% view. There is no built in exposure meter, hence no batteries. That feature reminds me of my Leica M4-P. It comes with a 50 f1.4 lens which is copied from a 1950’s lens. I’m looking forward to getting out and running my first roll film through my new Nikon rangefinder.

Enjoy your 'new' camera. It certainly sounds impressive.

I think it's called a Nikon S mount, but i'm not sure.
I am sure however that standard F mount lenses don't fit......at least not on my S2. Mike |

Nikon SP
I had a Nikon SP in the mid-1960s and it was magnificent except that the Contax-style focussing fingerwheel was stiff with the 105mm lens attached. And the lens hood for the 35mm masked a lot of the view. The Leica equivalent had slots to peep through.
Why did Nikon produce the S3? |

It is an ‘S’ mount. F’s wont fit. Nikon brought it out as a commemorative issue, strictly for Japan.
